I will be honest, I always liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple clicks and a customer can put an order with a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a cost. A significant one.
This is just one the few freelance platforms where buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail vendors any way they like.
Why? Since Fiverr turn a blind eye on it.
In this post, I want to talk about a recent bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, also I decided to give up on the stage altogether.
While I have been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I've been advising her building a respectable account, and the way to go above and beyond with every previous purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 order on her logo gig, which seemed to be just like any other... so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in good time, and my buddy had included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the costlier package).
The client"loved" among those concepts and so we moved to ship her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the final description. Soon after, things got a little bizarre.
The customer came back asking for a social media kit to site choose the emblem, something that is clearly not available as a member of her post.
Against my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the further work, despite not getting paid any extra for it.
Following that, the customer responded with more demands and some modifications to the social networking files.
At this point, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach out to Fiverr support for assistance, the client did finally go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Fiverr Review The Gig Economist Gigging for a Living For ... kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the support query, the client paid an additional $10 to your social media kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so I could punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and save my girlfriend from this PITA client.
When the answer came from Fiverr support, they told her they couldn't Fiverr Review – Legit Or Scam? Web Traffic Lounge force the purchaser to accept the order.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the purchaser already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the job has been done in accordance to the gig prerequisites.
Frankly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email the client was attempting to extort her for free work out the agreed periods, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Obviously, it wasn't really about the work, it had been all about seeking protection in an abusive client who had been blatantly pushing their luck.
Their reply didn't provide us some confidence that Fiverr actually knew , and even in this stage we felt like they did not wish to get involved.
At exactly the identical time, she also responded to the buyers most recent danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be feedback that has been clearly and blatantly left to bully her to providing work out the agreed provisions .)
A fair petition by anyones standards, appropriate?
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had done up until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the one breaking all the rules.
Since she had asked the customer to modify their feedback, she was no more eligible for some assistance from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done before her last message has been now being swept under the rug -- like never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an account she'd worked so tough to build up.
And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will eliminate it.
But as all of this was occurring, I did some research to see whether some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a buyer.
Very quickly, I found a range of nearly identical cases on the Fiverr forum obsolete years ago. (that's correct, decades.)
This is clearly something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from providing buyers too much power over vendors.
If there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time that you put into a project, or just how hard you worked on it, or perhaps how long you managed communication during a dispute, if it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it is a very clear cut case in your favor, there is still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one tiny thing that you"did wrong" according to their own terms of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Taking a look at the signs, it is obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's going on, yet remains keen to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can place all that time and effort into building up an account and also over-delivering at every possible opportunity, just to be taken down by the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I really don't want to abandon Fiverr. I don't want to be telling folks to avoid your system.
But after everything that has happened, you have not left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to guard freelancers from this type of abuse, I'll continue to propagate this article and do anything I can to prevent others from falling prey to your one-sided support team.
The second you truly do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight back, I'll be more than happy to update the article.
